|
About Susan Alatalo:
Longtime art teacher Susan Alatalo’s most recent after school and summer classes at the Hudson Area Arts Alliance attracted the highest
number of enrollees. The popular classes included sketching from nature, cartooning and drawing for fun. She has also taught art after
school in Boston, Somerville and Maynard.
At Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston Susan earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Both her graduate and post-graduate studies
there included coursework in art education, art materials, painting, illustration, media and art history. She produced documentary films
showcasing the exemplary art programs offered at Mass Art, as well as at Acton’s public schools.
Through the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Creative Schools Program, this Marlborough resident and local historian presented colonial
art to the entire Whitcomb Middle School fifth grade from 2008-10. She has also been a visiting artist at Fowler Middle School in Maynard
and Jeremiah Burke High School in Boston.
Her work has been exhibited in Marlborough at shows with the Mad Hatter Gallery, Marlborough Community Services, and Friends of the
Marlborough Public Library; in Hudson at the Citizens Bank and Wood Park; in Sudbury at the FScott Gallery; at Worcester Public Library as
part of the Worcester Artists Group; and in Boston at the Massachusetts State Transportation Building, Gallery East and Massachusetts
College of Art and Design.
Susan served as a docent at the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln for a decade and was elected delegate to the National
Docent Symposium by colleagues in 1991. She was invited to serve on the Museum’s Education and Programming Committee for several
years. She was graduate student delegate representing Massachusetts College of Art at the National Art Education Conference in
Washington, D.C.
As Marlborough Public Library’s young adult librarian, Susan created the Annual Youth Art and Writing Festivals, and other frequent exhibits
in the Library’s auditorium and foyer display case.
