Alyssa O'Mara
In 1983, after many hours of babysitting for a whopping $1/hour,
Alyssa spent her savings on a brand new 35mm camera. Hitting the
road with her trusty sidekick (best friend, Lisa) Alyssa spent most
weekends capturing the beauty of her suburban surroundings. A few
years later, while attending the New England School of Photography,
Alyssa would learn that trusty sidekicks are actually called assistants
and they expect to be paid. Please don’t tell Lisa.

Through the years Alyssa’s work has allowed her to fly upside down
in an antique airplane, hang out on the set of ‘This Old House’ and
navigate the slot canyons of Arizona. Not completely abandoning her
love of landscapes, these days Alyssa prefers the collaborative
experience of photographing artists and musicians in unique urban
and rural environments.
Time Warp 14x9
Memphis, TN
There are parts of Memphis that take you
back in time. The trolley service runs along
the main thoroughfare and for a dollar you
can ride the whole length of the street. The
trolleys are beautiful against the starkness of
the Memphis landscape.

Boat Masts 20x13
Boston, MA
This is my oldest photo in the show. It was
taken in 1986 for a slideshow about the vital
community around the Charles River. The
slideshow was made into a video called ‘A
View of The Charles’. The video was shown
on an Acton cable station (ad nauseum!),
with original music by local musician Paul
Davis. I still love photographing around the
Charles; there’s always something
interesting going on.

Boat House 13x9
Hopkinton State Park, Hopkinton, MA
This was one of those special moments. It
was really quiet and the fog was swirling
around, revealing different things every few
minutes. Hopkinton State is a heavily used
park and I was lucky to have it to myself for a
few minutes.

We March On 7x23
Lorraine Hotel, Memphis, TN
Visiting the Lorraine Hotel, the site of the
assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
was a surreal and humbling experience. I
was struck by the site of these children, on a
school field trip, walking to their busses. It
will be years before they really comprehend
who Dr. King was and what he meant to
everyone. This photo was taken in February,
2007.

Trees in Hopkinton 13x20
Hopkinton, MA
This photo was taken after a big snowstorm
during the winter of 2006.  It had snowed for
most of the day and then it suddenly stopped
and the sun came out. I grabbed the camera
and the dogs and drove around taking
pictures. This was the last shot of the day.
Edition 1/50 $295.00
Golden Gate Shadow 13x19
San Francisco, CA
I took this shot while living in California in
1987. It’s amazing how quickly the fog rolls
over the Golden Gate. The streaming sun
was just beautiful, casting a mammoth
shadow down to the water below.
Edition 1/50 $295.00

my life. Now I sometimes wonder if it was the best. This
shot was taken while they were arguing with me over
the number of times I made them stop so that I could
take photographs.
