Class Description

Mindful mark making, often referred to as neuro-graphic sketching, is an artistic practice that focuses on letting go of the pressures of “making something” and letting yourself freely create by using whatever marks come to mind. Many professional artists use this type of process when feeling “stuck”, as it helps open up creative channels and make space for creative thinking. Using lines and shapes, we will create works of art that allow us to relax our minds and lose ourselves in the process. Throughout class, we will take breaks to talk about what we are noticing as we create, without judgement or critique of our work. We will focus on silencing our inner critics and making marks without a set goal for the finished product. The first week will focus on how to start, and what to expect. The second will start with some discussion of the process and then leave you time to work. The third will start with sharing our work, and allow you time to work. A supply list 5x7 drawing paper or sketch book. Three different size micron pens (or similar black ink pen). I prefer 01, 03, 05 microns but any 3 sizes will do.
