Acrylic Painting with Chelsea Goodrich

Class Description
This class is geared towards beginners looking to learn the ropes of acrylic painting. I’ll start with the basics around understanding the paints and pigments themselves and about building the ideal palette, then move on to some of the foundations around how to best start applying the paint to a canvas to construct a scene. I’ll be sharing all of my tips on how to achieve painting a scene with vibrant hues, contrasting values, and smooth paint application. I’ll also be covering some of the common pitfalls new artists fall into when learning to paint. The class will start off with a demo going over how I prepare for a painting and start putting down the initial strokes to build a scene. I’ll be working from a reference photo, which I’m happy to share copies of with the rest of the class. I would also encourage students to bring their own reference photos if they’d like as well. Materials: 1 or 2 small canvas boards, around 8x10 in measurement will suffice. At least 3 different sized paintbrushes – around size 4, 8, and 18. I recommend flat brushes, but filbert and round brushes are fine as well. A palette surface. For paint colors we will need at least red, yellow, blue, white, and black. My suggested colors include: -Mars black -Titanium white -Quinacridone Red OR Cadmium Red -Hansa Yellow OR Cadmium Yellow -Cobalt Blue OR Ultramarine Blue
